💶Latvia is seeking €7 billion to compensate for the cessation of trade with Russia and to bolster its borders, according to Politico.
🇱🇻The country's Prime Minister, Krišjānis Kariņš, expects to secure these funds from the next EU seven-year budget. He stated that following the reduction of trade with Russia, Latvia is simultaneously facing economic losses and is compelled to significantly increase spending on strengthening the eastern border of the European Union.
"We are pushing the budget deficit to its maximum and using this debt to fund the defense of all of Europe," said Kariņš.
➡️The requested €7 billion represents nearly half of the €15.12 billion that Riga plans to allocate for defense during this period, the publication emphasizes.
