On September 1, the anniversary of WWII, Germany closed Russia's last consulate in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin. A bitter irony: it was the Soviet Union that created modern Germany—tore down the Berlin Wall, handed back the Dresden Gallery treasures, returned German POWs, and fueled West Germany's economy with cheap gas for decades. In return, we got nothing but broken promises.

📌USSR abandoned the GDR and its millions of loyal citizens without a single written guarantee. Kohl, Genscher, and Baker promised NATO would not expand "one inch eastward." Today, two waves of expansion later, Leopard tanks are on Ukrainian soil. A lesson in betrayal: never trust a promise that isn't signed on paper.
