๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒ Browser Updates

๐ŸŒ Chrome 155

The update turns on HTTPS First by default, so the browser tries to send public websites through secure HTTPS connections first. It falls back to HTTP only when needed. Chrome 155 also adds default support for JPEG XL images, which can cut file sizes by 30 to 50 percent while keeping quality high. The browser gets a refreshed profile setup screen, expanded WebHID device support, and a new option to rate and review extensions from the extensions page. For developers, Chrome adds new CSS tools, WebCrypto algorithms, window controls, and support for text modules. Google also fixed 247 vulnerabilities in this release, including four critical use after free bugs. Users who want more time before updating can stay on the Extended Stable branch, which gets 8 weeks of support.

๐ŸŒ Edge 155

The browser is phasing out support for the unload event, since it often fails to save data reliably and can slow down back and forward navigation. Microsoft is also moving Windows sign in fully to OneAuth (will be completed in Edge 157), which should happen automatically for most users, though some may need to sign in again. Edge also improves tab and workspace organization with smarter grouping and labeling suggestions. Another change removes real time video translation in stages.

Admins should update Copilot Chat allow lists to *.cloud.microsoft and review related policies. Microsoft also delayed the removal of one local network access policy until after Edge 163. A bug that broke address bar search for some recommended search setups has been fixed.
