Microsoft has introduced a "Voluntary Exit Offer" program with severance pay for up to 60,000 employees in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and India, according to a report citing an internal letter from Chief People Officer Amy Coleman. The offer applies to workers in several major divisions, including Windows + Devices, Xbox, AI teams, Finance, HR, and parts of Cloud + AI, Microsoft AI, and Legal, but excludes departments such as marketing, corporate sales, quantum computing, and cybersecurity.

Microsoft says the program is not based on age, tenure, or performance, and may be repeated in the future if needed. Interestingly, the company had previously offered a voluntary retirement program to about 9,000 U.S. employees. Perhaps, their jobs are being replaced with AI.
