⚙️ Windows 11 is getting a new option to manually reserve unified memory for graphics and AI tasks, discovered in an Insider build 29648 for the Experimental channel (Future Platforms). Unified memory is shared high-speed RAM used by the CPU, GPU, and other components, unlike traditional systems with separate VRAM for graphics.
By default, Windows manages this memory dynamically, which works well for everyday multitasking. But with demanding local AI models or modern games, shared resources can cause lag, lower frame rates, or crashes. The new setting would let users set aside memory specifically for games, graphics-heavy apps, and AI workloads, giving them more reliable access to performance-critical resources.
