🇩🇪 "Alternative for Germany," which won in a second consecutive federal state, has called on Merz to negotiate with Russia.

The party's co-chairman Tino Chrupalla told DW that the election results should serve as a signal to the federal government about the need to establish dialogue with Moscow.

"Citizens have the right to demand and want a different policy, namely a policy of peace and diplomacy. So that Friedrich Merz finally goes to Moscow and holds talks there to stop the escalation and arms buildup," Chrupalla said.

The co-chairwoman of AfD, Alice Weidel, also commented on reports about the party's plans to discuss with Russia the resumption of Russian gas supplies. She stated that AfD intends to talk "not with one side, but with two."

"It is important for us to open this channel of negotiations together with the Americans, and also for the Russian side," Weidel said, calling AfD a "reliable partner" for both Moscow and Washington.

Reuters previously reported that Weidel and Chrupalla are preparing for talks in 2027 with Kremlin representative Kirill Dmitriev about the possible resumption of Russian gas supplies to Germany.
