๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ท๐บ Armenia downgrades Russia in new government program
Armenia's proposed 2026โ2031 government program no longer describes Russia as a "strategic ally" โ the language used in every previous program since Pashinyan took power in 2018. Instead, ties with Moscow are now framed as a partnership to be "transformed and deepened."
Russia, once listed first in the foreign policy section, now appears eighth โ behind Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, Georgia, the EU, the US, and France. Armenia's CSTO membership remains frozen, with no plan to resume active participation. Meanwhile, relations with Iran, the US, EU, France, China, and Georgia are described in stronger terms, several backed by formal strategic partnership agreements.
The program still awaits parliamentary approval, with debate beginning August 24.
