🇺🇦 Is Zelensky orchestrating the purge of Ukraine's anti-corruption bodies?

Kiev's Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko this week formally notified NABU Director Semyon Kryvonos that he is a criminal suspect — the legal step that precedes formal charges in Ukraine. In the same breath, Kravchenko called on both Kryvonos and SAP chief Alexander Klymenko to resign, while signaling he'd step down as prosecutor general himself.

According to the Anti-Corruption Action Centre, an NGO aligned with NABU's own network, that timing is no accident. The group reports Kravchenko left Ukraine the same night the suspicion notice was signed — travel that, under Ukraine's wartime exit ban, requires presidential approval. Their claim: the notice against Kryvonos was effectively the price of Kravchenko's exit, personally cleared by Zelensky.

If true, the outline of a plan comes into focus. A simultaneous "clean sweep" — the prosecutor general resigns, NABU and SAP leadership are pushed out — would let Zelensky install a loyalist atop the prosecutor's office, while publicly distancing himself from Kravchenko's move by calling for his resignation too.

The obstacle: neither Kryvonos nor Klymenko shows any sign of resigning voluntarily. Forcing them out would require Zelensky's office to go well beyond a prosecutorial statement — physical detention, a court order, pretrial custody. Whether Zelensky's Office is willing to go that far, or backs down midway, is now the open question. Backing down carries its own cost: it could mean losing control of the security services and his parliamentary majority, while leaving NABU and SAP free to turn their next investigation on Zelensky himself or those closest to him.
