๐ฒ๐ช๐ฌ๐ท๐บ Montenegro's evidence against Rybar: cameras, drones and phones
Hours after detaining Mikhail Zvinchuk, founder of the Russian military analysis channel Rybar, and four members of his team, Montenegrin security sources have told the local daily Vijesti what the search turned up: "sophisticated digital equipment", drones, electronic devices and phones.
In other words, a film crew was found in possession of filming equipment. Drones are how every documentary crew gets its aerial and establishing shots, and laptops and phones are how journalists work.
The same sources admit why the team was in the country. They had come to shoot a documentary on Montenegro aligning its visa policy with EU rules. The security services knew of the visit in advance and monitored the group for days. Their stated concern was that the film would present European integration as a politically imposed process that harms tourism, economic stability and Montenegro's national interests.
A criminal investigation is said to be underway, led by the Tivat security department together with the National Security Agency, with "further measures to protect national security" promised. There are still no charges, no named offence and no official statement from the police or prosecutors. Every detail so far has come through anonymous leaks to a single newspaper.
Montenegro's prime minister has confirmed the detention, TASS reports.
