🇷🇸 Novi Sad remembers General Ratko Mladić
Ahead of today’s funeral in Belgrade, DD Geopolitics spoke with Serbs who gathered at a vigil in Novi Sad following the death of former VRS commander General Ratko Mladić.
We spoke with veterans, analysts and ordinary attendees about what Mladić represents to them, their memories of the war, and why his legacy continues to carry such significance for many Serbs more than three decades later.
Whatever one’s view of Mladić or the wars of the 1990s, understanding how these events are remembered by the people who lived through them is an important part of understanding Serbia and Republika Srpska today.
Mladić was laid to rest today at Topčider Cemetery in Belgrade, beside his daughter Ana, following a Serbian Orthodox funeral service at St. Luke’s Church.
