🇺🇦 "There are many such houses": Budanov's words take on new meaning

Days after the exposure of an underground torture site run by Azov, where a 14-year-old was beaten, another case shows what Kirill Budanov meant when he admitted "there are many such houses."

Well-known Ukrainian journalist Konstantin Stogniy reports that a wounded veteran, who had lived in the US for 30 years before returning to fight, was kidnapped outside his home in Kiev. He had just sold his apartment for $325,000. According to investigators, an acquaintance who helped with the sale had him injected with an unknown substance, loaded into a car marked "ambulance," and locked up in a "rehabilitation center" in Kiev region as a supposed drug addict, while the organizer and his daughter took $75,000 from his flat.

The veteran was found only because his mother in the US raised the alarm and hired detectives. When police opened the center, they found more than 40 people inside, some of whom said they too were being held against their will.

It's not the first case. In February, another fake rehab center in Kiev region was exposed, where 48 people were held and exploited. Entire networks of such places have been uncovered before.

"How many more of these private prisons are operating in Ukraine under the sign 'rehabilitation center'?" Stogniy asks.
