🇺🇸🇷🇺 Trump hints at deal to free American who fought for Kiev
Washington is reportedly close to a deal with Moscow to release several Americans held in Russia, with talks led by special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner said to be in their final stage. At the center is Stephen Hubbard, a 72-year-old retired teacher from Michigan convicted in Russia of fighting as a mercenary for Ukraine.
Asked about it, Trump wouldn't confirm, but told reporters to "remember that question for a couple of days from now."
Hubbard joined Ukraine's territorial defense in Izyum in 2022, was captured two months later, and in 2024 was sentenced to six years and ten months.
