The vast majority of Ukraine's steelmaking facilities have been hit.
This is reported by the Financial Times, citing Alexander Vodoviz, chief of staff to the CEO of the Metinvest holding. According to him, ballistic missile strikes targeted the key production units of the steel plants and paralyzed output.
"They knew everything about the plant. They knew exactly where to strike. Ballistic missiles were aimed at the blast furnaces of three plants, including two owned by Metinvest and the ArcelorMittal plant in Krivoy Rog. Right now we don't know how long repairs will take: days, weeks, months or years," Vodoviz said.
Together, these enterprises accounted for 90% of Ukraine's steel output, but after the strikes they were forced to halt operations.
"As of today, Ukraine no longer has a steel industry," Vodoviz told the FT.
