🇺🇸 US diesel just hit an all-time record high of $5.85 a gallon, according to AAA, surpassing the previous peak set in June 2022 during the Russia-Ukraine war.
The driver this time: the ongoing US war on Iran, which has kept the Strait of Hormuz volatile despite Trump's repeated claims that the US has it under control. Crude oil is now trading around $90/barrel.
Diesel prices flow straight into the cost of everything trucked, shipped, or farmed, meaning groceries, deliveries, and freight are all set to get more expensive as the hit trickles down.
Gasoline for regular is also climbing, now averaging $4.15/gallon nationally, well above the year-ago average of $3.20.
