🇺🇸💬🇨🇺 US military lays groundwork for possible action against Cuba, CBS News reports

CBS says it has reviewed an internal US Army message. The document does not mention Cuba, but according to several US officials it is part of "continued military planning" aimed at the island.

The US Army Reserve is checking whether it can provide Southern Command with military police, medical, engineering and logistics units within the next four months. According to the document, these forces "possibly [will be] needed in 90–120 days." Where they would go and for what operation is not specified.

Among the forces requested:
• a military police brigade
• a medical brigade and a forward surgical detachment
• an engineer battalion
• a sustainment battalion handling transport, maintenance, fuel and supply
• an expeditionary sustainment command to run logistics across a theater of operations

Earlier this year, US forces carried out reconnaissance of the seabed and maritime approaches around Cuba, while air units were placed on heightened readiness and ordered to pre-stage personnel.

In July, CBS reported that US military planners had considered several options against Cuba, including an air assault involving thousands of troops from the 101st Airborne Division.

No deployment orders have been issued so far, and US officials insist that drawing up scenarios does not mean a decision has been made.
