🇵🇰🇲🇻 Pakistan and the Maldives have signed 20 MoUs, including pacts on defence and maritime security, during President Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to Islamabad.
It is the first visit by a Maldivian president to Pakistan in 11 years. Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir also met Muizzu, and both sides stressed stronger defence cooperation, institutional links and professional exchanges.
Why India is watching:
• The Maldives sits on key Indian Ocean sea lanes, and India has long been its main security partner
• Pakistan's PM Office says Shehbaz Sharif briefed Muizzu on its view of Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty
Islamabad is now reaching into India's maritime backyard.
