🚀 Report: India's hypersonic ship-killer, the LR-AShM, is being lined up for induction between 2027 and 2029, reports say.
The DRDO missile is built for the Indian Navy's coastal batteries and can hit both static and moving ships.
Key facts
• Range: about 1,500 km
• Speed: starts near Mach 10 and averages Mach 5 with multiple skips, DRDO says
• Flies low and manoeuvres, so enemy ship and ground radars cannot track it for most of its flight
• Two-stage solid rocket motor, then an unpowered glide onto the target
• Phase-II flight trial was done off the Odisha coast in May, with a few more tests due before induction
At Mach 5, 1,500 km takes about 15 minutes.
