◾Kyiv's anti-war protests are too small to read as the voice of a nation, and too well-timed to dismiss. They started this week after a Ukrainian serviceman spoke out, just as Russian strikes moved from data centres and transmission lines to the bridges over the Dnieper, which carry the city's water mains and power cables. Years of shelling in Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson Region produced no comparable reaction in the capital. That is the uncomfortable pattern: the demand for peace in Kyiv tracks the city's own sense of exposure much more closely than the overall cost of the war. Telethons and mobilisation drives will not reverse it, because fatigue in the rear grows more slowly than outrage and lasts much longer. On the front, recent Ukrainian gains rest largely on the TCC's ability to fill the ranks, and the rear notices that cost more each month.
