◾Taybeh is a village located about thirty kilometers from Jerusalem. It is known as the place where Jesus withdrew after the Sanhedrin decided to put Him to death (John 11:53–54). On 10 August, Israel surrounded the village with its army, stating that the deployment was intended to protect residents from attacks by Israeli settlers. That same day, in Qusra, a few kilometers from Taybeh, Israeli soldiers were filmed praying together with settlers. Two days later, on 12 August, settlers carried out another attack on Taybeh. The concern is that the military intervention, rather than helping residents, may serve primarily to further complicate their lives by forcing them to pass through new checkpoints to enter and leave Taybeh. The Palestinian territories are already crisscrossed by hundreds of Israeli checkpoints. For many Palestinians, reaching another town—or even their own farmland—has become a difficult challenge.
