For the first time in history, a Muslim senator has been elected in the United States.
Democrat Abdul El-Sayed won the election in Michigan.
After his victory, the former head of the Detroit Department of Health addressed Trump, who had previously mocked his name:
"Donald, listen, I know it was hard for you to pronounce my name. So, after Jay Dee administers the oath of office in January, you can just call me Senator."
Previously, Trump had stated that if Abdul El-Sayed won, Congress would have to acquire a special metal detector to screen him, "to prevent a jihadist from entering the Capitol."
