Ueno Bank, the country's largest digital bank, has been seized by the Central Bank after its solvency ratio reportedly plunged below half the legal requirement.

Nearly 3 million customers, around 60% of the adult population, are reportedly affected, with banking services, cards and money transfers frozen.

The Central Bank chief has resigned, while eight senior executives, including the bank's founder and president, have been detained.

Even Paraguay's state pension fund reportedly has around $380 million invested in the bank.

Angry citizens are taking to the streets, demanding access to their own money.
