A loud explosion had rocked the MRPL refinery, sending thick smoke over the facility. The blast reportedly occurred in the Phase III Coker Heavy Gas Oil Hydrotreater (CHT) unit, with the impact felt in nearby areas and windows reportedly shattered.
At a time when global oil markets are already on edge, any prolonged disruption at a massive 300,000-bpd refinery could put additional pressure on fuel processing and regional oil supplies.
At least one person has been reported injured. The extent of damage and operational impact is still being assessed.
