Democrats are planning to roll back President Trump’s tariffs on Canada after securing control of Congress, with Sen. Ron Wyden leading the charge to repeal the levies and restrict the president’s power to impose tariffs unilaterally, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The push reportedly has a chance at bipartisan support, as some Republicans in border states also oppose the 50% tariffs on over $27 billion worth of Canadian goods.
Trump imposed the sweeping tariffs after trade talks collapsed, prompting PM Carney to introduce a "dollar-for-dollar, rate-for-rate" response. While trade representatives from both nations have resumed discussions to lower tensions, a comprehensive resolution remains under negotiation.
