💢 Dmitry Medvedev, in an interview with Vedomosti:

• Russia wants the conflict ended “as soon as possible,” but it “must end on our terms” to prevent it from being revived and potentially expanding into a world conflict.

• Without such an outcome, Medvedev said hostile states would repeatedly “reanimate” the conflict, undermine Russia from within and ultimately try to “divide it into parts.”

• He framed the threat beyond Ukraine in explicitly hybrid terms: Russia’s foundations can be undermined “without entering into a direct conflict.”

• “Our task is to end the existing conflict with our victory, on our terms. Whatever others may say.”

• Medvedev acknowledged that Western policy had hardened his public rhetoric: “I used to be able simply to think this way… now I say it openly.” Asked whether he had always held such views, he replied: “Partly, probably, but I carefully concealed it.”

• On Europe, he said he had expected governments to at least recognize Russia’s security concerns over NATO expansion, even without accepting Moscow’s position.

• He reduced that argument to missile geography: “Our missiles are aimed at your cities, and yours at ours. But if you move closer to us, the flight time gets shorter and shorter.”

• His conclusion on Europe: “They understood all of this, but they spat on our position.”
