💢 Iranian strikes have put the future of major US military bases in the Persian Gulf in doubt, with some damaged facilities potentially not worth rebuilding, the Financial Times reports.
• Iran’s missile and drone attacks exposed the vulnerability of large, fixed installations positioned within striking range of Iran. Washington now faces a choice between spending billions of dollars rebuilding damaged bases or fundamentally reshaping its military footprint in the region.
• Permanent Gulf bases are losing some of their appeal as staging and supply hubs, and the strikes could accelerate an existing shift toward smaller, more dispersed and mobile deployments, including moving forces farther west and beyond the range of Iranian short-range weapons.
