💢 Police detain protesters at Constitutional Tribunal amid leadership crisis in Poland
Polish police have detained protesters outside the Constitutional Tribunal building in Warsaw. Law enforcement officials stated they were responding to reports of potential security threats to judges and court staff, and are taking measures to maintain public order.
The opposition accuses the government of attempting a forceful takeover of the institution. President Karol Nawrocki has announced he is cutting short his foreign trip to Senegal and returning to Poland. Police deny claims of seizing the court.
The Tribunal's President Bogdan Święczkowski arrived at the court building and ordered that access to the territory be ensured by any possible means, which resulted in the use of an angle grinder to enter the premises.
