๐ข QatarEnergy is in talks to buy US LNG under long-term contracts โ a striking reversal for one of the worldโs dominant LNG suppliers, Bloomberg reports. The state company is considering supplies from both operating and under-construction US export projects as the Iran war disrupts its ability to serve customers.
Iranian strikes damaged two of Ras Laffanโs 14 LNG trains, knocking out 17% of Qatarโs export capacity. QatarEnergy estimates repairs will take three to five years and cost roughly $20 billion a year in lost revenue, while continued risks in the Strait of Hormuz have severely restricted tanker traffic.
The impact has been dramatic: Reuters reported that Qatar shipped just 18 LNG cargoes during the first six months of the war, down from 509 a year earlier โ a 96% collapse โ with lost gas sales estimated at $24 billion.
