💢 September 30: On board a Flydubai aircraft flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv, the knife-armed co-pilot attacked the captain. The attacker then attempted to crash the aircraft. The plane lost more than 4,300 meters of altitude in 30 seconds. The wounded captain tried to stop him. Passengers heard noise coming from the cockpit, broke down the door, subdued the attacker and provided assistance to the wounded pilot. A relief crew happened to be on board, took control of the aircraft and made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. According to preliminary reports, the wounded captain died.

Media immediately reported several versions of who was involved in the fight in the cockpit. According to one, the co-pilot was a Ukrainian citizen and the injured captain was a Russian citizen. According to other reports, the attacker was an Omani national and the captain was from the UAE. Israel took the situation seriously. The leadership even considered scrambling fighter jets to intercept the aircraft. Shin Bet and Mossad consider the incident on board an attempted terrorist attack.

Notably, yesterday Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “there are indications that, ahead of the elections, our enemies will try to attack us.”
