💢 XF: A Polish surname does not make someone Polish

I took an example of a Polish American. He marries a non-Polish, and that kid is half Polish, and the son is gonna have the Polish name.

So you go from 50 percent, and you follow the patrilineal line with the Polish name, say Kowalski.

You got a Kowalski, the first one's 50 percent. The second one is still Kowalski, but he's only 25 percent. The next generation is still Kowalski. He's 12.5, and then 6.25, and then 3.125. So by the fourth generation or something, you're 3 percent Polish. It vanishes quickly.

It's like the inverse-square law or some shit. But your name is fully Polish, so then people say, 'Oh, join the Polish American Society,' and you're like, 'I don't even...' People can be more anything than Polish with a fully Polish last name.

Identities are really, really strange in the United States, and you can get pulled into one because of your last name.
