A system with a 98% conviction rate, one that enjoys a presumption of administrative propriety and can delay investigations or accelerate them according to its interests, is precisely the kind of system that would embark on the greatest campaign in its history with empty emergency equipment depots, no training, and its forces effectively stood down—because, after all, the enemy is deterred and will surrender.
That is what is called a *conception*—a deeply entrenched, flawed assumption.
This episode, incidentally, only reinforces two major conclusions.
The first is just how essential the proposed law to separate the Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash) from the Ministry of Justice really is.
The trial revealed how the same senior prosecutor who authorized the criminal interrogation tactic used against Hefetz was also the one who deliberated over how to bury the investigation into that very matter.
The second conclusion is just how despicable and immoral the so-called “Defendant Law” is.
No individual should be given the power to thwart the democratic choice of millions of voters.
Especially when that individual and his associates are carrying a sack full of skeletons—or, in this case, a plastic bag.
