CNN report: Israel deployed intelligence units and elite units in southern Azerbaijan during the war with Iran.

The Israeli forces operated from there to carry out attacks in northwestern Iran, including the nearby city of Tabriz.

One of the main actions launched from Azerbaijan was the assassination on March 4 of Rahman Makdam, who headed the intelligence division of the Revolutionary Guards. Israel claimed he was responsible for planning the assassination attempt on Trump in 2024.

The day after, drones struck an airport in Azerbaijan, causing damage to the terminal building and injuring several people.
