President Trump has signaled support for a proposal to help Canadian Jews escape the alarming rise of antisemitism in their country.
The National Association of Christian Lawmakers, together with Christian leaders and civic organizations, has formally asked the Trump administration to establish a lawful and expedited pathway for eligible Jewish Canadians and their immediate families to relocate to the United States.
The request cites the harassment, intimidation, vandalism, threats, and violence increasingly directed against Jewish schools, synagogues, businesses, institutions, and families since October 7, 2023.
More than 2,000 Jewish Canadians have reportedly expressed interest in relocating because they no longer feel safe. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has already declared that his state would proudly welcome Jewish families fleeing antisemitism.
Jews constitute only about 1% of Canada’s population, yet they were the targets of nearly 70% of all religion-based hate crimes recorded there in 2024.
When Jewish parents must question whether it is safe to send their children to a Jewish school, worship openly, or publicly display their faith, the world must pay attention.
It is beginning to feel frighteningly similar to Europe in the 1930s - when antisemitism was normalized, Jewish families were increasingly threatened, and far too many people remained silent.
This is not yet an official government program - but President Trump’s decision to share the proposal is an encouraging indication that the appeal has reached the White House.
