That Lebanese Shiite journalist Nadim Koteich, CEO of Sky News Arabia: The Republicans lost the midterms not because they fought with Iran but because they failed to defeat it.
Challenging Vice President JD Vance’s position, Koteich argues that the Republicans paid the price for their decision not to finish the war against Iran.
In his assessment, Vance presented the memorandum of understanding signed in June as an American victory: the Strait of Hormuz would reopen, fuel prices would fall, and Iran’s nuclear program would be eliminated.
But within weeks, Koteich writes, reality undermined those promises. The conflict continued, prices remained high, and voters punished Republicans for an incomplete outcome.
His explanation draws on poker: When you hold a strong hand but refuse to go all in, you give a weaker hand the chance to take the pot.
Koteich’s conclusion is clear: Republicans lost control of the Senate and the House because they refused to carry the war through to a decisive victory.
