Two seemingly separate developments in Syria this week may be far more connected than they first appear.

First, Israel struck the Abu al-Duhur airbase in northwestern Syria. Israel later confirmed the strike and said Damascus had been warned against allowing Turkish troops to deploy at the base, arguing that such a deployment would constitute a threat to Israel’s security.

Then came another extraordinary development.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi revealed that inspectors have found a few tons of nuclear material in Syria connected to the clandestine nuclear activities of the former Assad regime. Syria has now given the IAEA access to previously undeclared locations, and the material is expected to be verified and placed under international safeguards. Grossi warned that such material could potentially be put to bad use.

This brings us back to Site 99.

Site 99 is reportedly a secret location associated with Syria’s former nuclear program, where material connected to the North Korean-assisted Al-Kibar reactor project was stored. Israel destroyed the Al-Kibar reactor in 2007 and, according to recent reporting, later struck the entrances to Site 99 to prevent uncontrolled access to the material.

Now connect the dots.

Turkey is rapidly expanding its military involvement with the new Syrian government. Ankara has the engineering, logistical and military capabilities that could potentially help Damascus reach hardened or inaccessible facilities.

There is currently no public evidence that Turkey intends to help Syria access Site 99 or its nuclear material. That distinction is important.

But Israel has just demonstrated that it considers a Turkish military deployment inside Syria a red line serious enough to warrant an airstrike.

At the same time, the world is discovering that tons of nuclear material from Syria’s secret nuclear program still exist inside the country.

These may be two separate stories.

But they are unfolding on the same battlefield, involving the same three countries - Syria, Turkey and Israel - and at precisely the same time.

Israel destroyed Syria’s secret reactor in 2007.

Nearly twenty years later, the nuclear story in Syria may not be over.

And now to the prophetic implications.

For decades, I have been teaching that I believe the fulfillment of Isaiah 17 - the destruction of Damascus - could become the catalyst for the Ezekiel 38 war, with Turkey at the spearhead of the invading coalition.

I am not saying that these developments are the fulfillment of prophecy. I am saying that the pieces we have been watching for years are becoming increasingly visible.
