Why is dispensationalism more biblical than covenant theology?

Because it allows the Bible to speak plainly and recognizes that God’s promises to Israel remain exactly what He declared them to be.

Four major biblical covenants are connected to Israel:

The Abrahamic Covenant promised Abraham a people, a land, and a blessing that would reach all the nations of the earth.

The Mosaic Covenant established the law and defined Israel’s responsibilities as a nation before God.

The Davidic Covenant promised an everlasting throne and a King from the line of David.

The New Covenant promised forgiveness, spiritual renewal, and a new heart.

Of these four covenants, only the Mosaic Covenant was conditional. Its blessings depended upon Israel’s obedience. Yet Israel could not fulfill its conditions because sinful humanity cannot keep God’s law perfectly.

The problem was not the law. The problem was the human heart. The law exposed sin and revealed humanity’s need for a Savior.

“Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”
Galatians 3:24

That is why a New Covenant was needed. It would not depend upon man’s ability to obey, but upon Messiah Yeshua’s finished work. He fulfilled the law, shed His blood for our sins, and accomplished what sinful humanity could never accomplish.

The Church shares in the spiritual blessings of the New Covenant, but it has not replaced Israel. God’s unconditional promises concerning Israel’s people, land, throne, and future restoration still stand.

Dispensationalism maintains the biblical distinction between Israel and the Church. Covenant theology often blurs that distinction and transfers promises made specifically to Israel to the Church.

But if God could break His promises to Israel, how could any of us trust His promises to us?
