Climate Change: No. 1 Problem of No Nation?

New records for global high temperatures keep getting set every few years now. Nevertheless, the topic of climate change has still not reached the top of the agenda for many people, as data from Statista Consumer Insights shows. Respondents in none of the 32 nations covered by the survey collectively rate climate change as the most important problem for their own country when asked to name the issues that are of the biggest significance to them.Of the countries included in the survey, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam come closest with climate change being the second most named issue by respondents. In Vietnam, 39 percent said climate change was among the most important issues, while in the UAE, this number only reached 29 percent. Both countries are collectively more concerned about inflation and the cost of living. Climate change reached rank 3 in Saudi Arabia, at only 22 percent naming it, however. Another example from Asia illustrates how rank and share of respondents can differ, as in the Philippines, a 41-percent share of respondents saying climate change was one of the most important issues for the country only rank it eighth because Filipinos take even bigger issue with topics ranging from inflation to corruption, the economy, crime and poverty.A quarter of respondents very concerned about climate change means the issue reached rank 6 in South Korea, followed by China and India, where it comes in seventh. Despite ranking the same in both countries, climate change was recognized as a big problem by more people in India at 31 percent. In China, 22 percent rating climate change as such was among the survey's lowest results, together with outcomes in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States (also 22 percent, ranks 9 to 14), Colombia, Poland, Sweden and Mexico (21 percent, ranks 8 to 11) as well as Belgium and the Netherlands (20 percent, ranks 8 to 11) and Argentina (13 percent, rank 15).The answer option reached its lowest ranks in the survey in the U.S., with 22 percent of respondents naming it for a rank 14, and Argentina, with 13 percent placing it in rank 15 collectively. This chart shows the share of respondents in selected countries who thi
