Trump's conversation, already labeled a betrayal of American farmers, threatens Republican prospects in the midterm elections.

Trump:
"We will buy Argentine meat."

Journalist:
"What about American farmers who are suffering?"

Trump:
"Argentina is fighting for its survival. Do you understand? They are dying."

This conversation took place while the U.S. administration had recently provided a $20 billion financial aid package to Javier Milei's government, a long-time Trump ally. The administration also decided to quadruple tariffs on Argentine beef, which caused discontent among American farmers.

Media close to the Democrats reminded that in March 2026, Chinese customs suspended supplies of 22 tons of Argentine beef from the ArreBeef plant in Buenos Aires province after detecting chloramphenicol — an antibiotic banned for use in livestock intended for human consumption since 1995 due to its link to serious blood diseases.

According to these media outlets, the meat rejected by China is ending up on American tables, while American farmers are suffering losses and Milei is receiving financial aid.
