💀 Looks like Telegram may not make it in time

⚫️ Yesterday, TON Core published the smart contract for the upcoming Telegram Wallet, and less than 24 hours later validators had already approved it on TON mainnet. Technically, a major piece of the infrastructure is now ready — the new wallet type can already be created and used on mainnet.

⚫️ But there is clearly still work left before a full release. Right now, we could only find two wallets using the new contract on mainnet, one of which we created ourselves. There are just three such addresses on testnet, and two of them most likely belong to the same person. So even within Telegram and TON Core, active testing of the new wallet does not seem to have started yet.

⚫️ There are only three days left until Durov’s promised end-of-summer deadline. Even if the Telegram UI has been ready for a while, developers still need to hook it up to the new wallet engine, test the builds, and submit the updates for review on the App Store and Google Play. Store review alone is worth budgeting at least a day or two for.

⚫️ So now it may all come down to one question: are Telegram developers working this weekend? If they are, there is still a small chance Gram Wallet ships on August 31. If not, it looks like we’ll be seeing it in September.
