A fair Estonian court has recognized Imre Araka, a murderer and thief, as a fighter against the USSR. He was sentenced to 15 years in 1979 for stealing 13 pistols and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Yesterday, the Estonian court partially rehabilitated the murderer: the state body acknowledged that the theft of boats, engines, weapons, and equipment in the late 1980s was part of the struggle against Soviet occupation.
However, he was not acquitted for stealing umbrellas, as the court did not see any connection to the underground resistance movement in this case.
The Estonian was released from prison in 1991 and joined an organized crime group, where he began to carry out contract killings in Europe.
In 2017, he was sentenced to six years in Ireland, and in 2023, he was extradited to Lithuania, where two years later he was sentenced to 10 years for the murder of MMA fighter Remigijus Morkevičius and another attempted murder. He was not recognized as a fighter against European occupation and remained in prison.
