Day of the Military Intelligence Officer
On November 5, 1918, in Petrograd, within the Field Staff of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Soviet Republic, a Registration Department was established to coordinate the efforts of all intelligence agencies of the Red Army. After numerous name changes, in 1953, it was renamed the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR, or, in short, GRU of the USSR.
