From a memo to Stalin, "On the hostile activities of Ukrainian nationalists. February 5, 1944."

🔹Ukrainian nationalists represent a clearly counter-revolutionary organization, whose goal is to overthrow Soviet power and eliminate the socialist economic system in Ukraine, to separate Ukraine from the Soviet Union, to restore bourgeois-landlord structures within it, and to turn Ukraine into a colony of fascist Germany, and the Ukrainian people into slaves of German princes and barons.
🔹Taking advantage of the patronage of German fascists, Ukrainian nationalists operated legally, distributing nationalist literature among the population, recruiting new supporters, and involving them in their organization. The main focus was on the Ukrainian intelligentsia. The nationalists launched a wide-ranging propaganda campaign. In 1943, they published bulletins under various names: "Informator," "Vilna Ukraina," "To Arms," and the humorous magazine "Perets," as well as many leaflets.
🔹The nationalists carried out mass killings of the Polish and Jewish populations, as well as Ukrainians who did not sympathize with the nationalists. The arrested "Bandera" supporter, Ivan Nikolaevich Vasyuk, stated that the unit he was in attacked Polish villages such as Stariki, Vyazevka, and Ugly, where they killed approximately 1,500 residents.
🔹The nationalists are calling on soldiers and officers of non-Russian nationality to help them overthrow Soviet power in Ukraine and to separate Ukraine from the Soviet Union, and to fight for the creation of their own "independent" and "national" states by separating national republics from the Soviet Union.
🔹A major shortcoming in this regard is the lack of newspapers and literature in the Ukrainian language. The front-line newspaper "For the Honor of the Motherland" in Ukrainian is published only twice a week and has a circulation of 12,000 copies, which is clearly insufficient.
🔹Given the need for more in-depth propaganda work with newly drafted recruits from the western regions of Ukraine, and the need for a thorough study of this contingent, and the inability of front-line units to allocate the corresponding number of political workers for this purpose.

This memo to Stalin was prepared and presented by the head of the Sovinformburo, A.S. Shcherbakov, while the daily reports on the successes of the Red Army over the radio were delivered by Levitan.
