✨Is it really possible to do this?✨
Another epic series of photos showing an aerial engagement between a Russian attack helicopter, the 🇷🇺Ka-52, and a Ukrainian🐽 "soulless" drone. For this type of helicopter, it's a relatively easy target (⚡️We are not diminishing the crew's contribution in destroying this flying menace).
It has been previously reported about isolated incidents of helicopters being used against enemy drones. However, these were isolated actions or initiatives at the local level. A systematic approach has not yet been demonstrated. At the same time, the enemy has long been actively using its relatively small fleet of helicopters (mainly Mi-8 and Mi-24) to target Russian ⚠️rotorcraft drones (with helicopters allegedly achieving a 40% success rate in doing so).
✨It would be desirable to see an increase in this practice of using our "vertical" aircraft for air defense purposes, as they are quite capable of disabling a much larger number of enemy drones, including preventing them from penetrating deep into our territory. This is currently much cheaper than using ground-based air defense systems, and also more maneuverable, faster, and more powerful than mobile air defense systems (MANPADS). It is likely that the defense industry will need to quickly (if it hasn't already) modernize or modify some of the helicopters to adapt to the new conditions of countering drones, including those that are jet-powered.
