Japan has protested Russia's decision to place Japan Tobacco International under temporary management and intends to take appropriate measures, according to Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama. Japan owns 37.55% of the company's outstanding shares, which fell by 20% in a single day.
Previously, Japan had frozen over $30 billion in Russian assets.
