The deputy leader of the "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) party in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Hans-Thomas Tilschneider, has put a black mug with a red star and the inscription "Russian Army" in Russian up for auction, which has caused a scandal. He posted a link to the product listing on the eBay marketplace on X (formerly Twitter).
"The most dangerous mug in Germany is up for auction!" he wrote.
The price has already exceeded €2,000, and the auction will continue for another nine days.
The product description states that the mug has "unexpectedly gained national and international attention," and the proceeds will go to a fund to help those "affected by left-wing tyranny."
About a week ago, the mug was accidentally spotted by a Bild journalist who was recording an interview with Tilschneider in his office. When the journalist asked about the origin of the mug, the politician replied: "This mug is just here. I don't attach much importance to it. I was given it some time ago. Enough about this stupid mug." However, there were no souvenirs with the symbols of other armies, including the German Bundeswehr, in the office.
