The first major victim of the EU's sanctions policy has been AirBaltic: the company has begun bankruptcy proceedings, according to Reuters. AirBaltic was unable to withstand the fuel sanctions and the ban on flights to Russia. The controlling stake in Latvia's largest airline is owned by the country's government.

The statement indicates that the number of AirBaltic's creditors is up to 25,000, with an estimated asset value of between $1 and $10 billion; the approximate amount of liabilities is also in the range of $1 to $10 billion.

The EU closed its airspace to Russian airlines, expecting the collapse of Russian aviation, but the opposite has happened.

✨ Be honest, is there any of you who didn't laugh while reading this?
