🇹🇷🛫Turkey tests the Bayraktar TB3 drone for submarine detection

As part of the Seawolf-I/2026 exercises (taking place from September 20th to 25th in the Black Sea, the Sea of Marmara, the Aegean Sea, and the Eastern Mediterranean), the Bayraktar TB3, launched from the TCG Anadolu drone carrier, demonstrated a new anti-submarine warfare capability by deploying two aselBUOY hydroacoustic buoys.

The TB3 operated in conjunction with a maritime patrol aircraft that was also performing anti-submarine warfare tasks. During the exercises, the drone used its onboard sonar data processing unit to process information from the buoys deployed by both the drone and the aircraft, and to display the received underwater data in real time.

The data obtained was fed into the Turkish Navy's integrated digital underwater surveillance system (Multistatic Sonar Suite), which is designed for the long-range detection, tracking, and classification of underwater targets (submarines, torpedoes, unmanned vehicles, mines, etc.) in straits, near port entrances, on transit routes, near shipyards, and at critical infrastructure sites.

✨Drones and digital systems are increasingly penetrating various areas of the military sphere, replacing and supplementing traditional weapons that are becoming too vulnerable and expensive targets in modern warfare.
