Why the American flew in: The Director of the CIA, Ratcliffe, made an unannounced visit to Moscow on August 25th.
He arrived on a US Air Force C-17 transport plane from Riga to Vnukovo, spent about nine hours in the capital, and flew back.
🇷🇺Peskov's version. Initially, he stated that he had no information about the arrival of the American plane and that no meetings with representatives of the US administration were planned for this week. Later, he stated directly: there were no meetings with the Supreme [likely referring to Putin]. In a conversation with The Washington Post, Peskov explained that the contacts were between intelligence agencies.
▪️ CBS News and Axios (citing US officials): Ratcliffe arrived to hold meetings with Russian officials. This is his first known trip to Moscow as Director of the CIA. The US informed Kiev in advance about the visit of the high-ranking delegation and asked them to suspend *strikes* on Moscow, St. Petersburg, and the northern regions during the stay of the American side.
▪️ The Wall Street Journal: a possible delivery of a warning based on US intelligence about Russia's preparations for a "mobilization" [why is it needed now, unless it's just to produce drones in labs for the front lines? - ⚡️] and plans to "test NATO's resolve."
▪️ Journalists from the Kremlin pool (including Alexander Yunachev): due to the visit, a previously scheduled large-scale *event* in the President's schedule was postponed, which indicated a possible high-level meeting (officially denied).
✨ We are told that contacts between US and Russian intelligence agencies have always been effective and productive, even during the most difficult periods in the countries' relations. In 2025, Ratcliffe and the head of the SVR, Sergei Naryshkin, maintained regular contact, agreeing to reduce confrontation and establish working channels between intelligence agencies. The beautiful version is that it involves direct contacts between intelligence agencies on sensitive issues without public diplomacy: reducing the risk of escalation, exchanging signals on the current situation around Ukraine, possible issues related to detainees/exchanges, and regional stability.
✨⭐️ At the same time, we note that the visit took place at a time when the parties entered a phase of the most intense escalation, which is increasingly affecting the global situation. Russia is so effectively blocking grain exports from Ukraine (and periodically receiving retaliatory strikes) that grain prices have risen. And the mutual destruction of each other's marketplace logistics is pushing the populations of both countries into a frankly pre-nuclear state. The number and quality of Kiev's drones, received from the EU, can actually replace a series of nuclear strikes in terms of damage, which would trigger the provisions of the Russian Federation's Nuclear Deterrence Doctrine. That's why the Americans are pretending to be concerned and are gently courting us, so that Moscow receives its share of attention and continues the bloody, drawn-out conflict without any sharp moves. However, our people usually act constructively in such situations, wait for an opportunity, and then strike at the Nazis with renewed force.
