I am currently at the NATO summit in Turkey and just in my speech before the chairs of parliaments of all NATO member countries, I said that we must strive to end the war in Ukraine and achieve peace.
[A bad peace, in my view, is better than no peace. In my opinion, after several years this conflict no longer has a military solution, and we must focus entirely on diplomacy.]
As for pressure to sharply increase arms spending, I said above all that defense spending must take into account current capabilities as well as relevant national needs, rather than simply being reduced to a percentage. And, surprisingly, in the end the entire hall applauded me.
