🇰🇷🇰🇵 Seoul Proposes New Path to Peace with North Korea: Nuclear Freeze and Disarmament

🎤​ South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said Pyongyang must first halt the development of nuclear weapons and missile technologies before moving toward broader denuclearization.

​ ➡ Speaking at the UN General Assembly, he said Seoul supports dialogue between the US and North Korea and favors replacing the current Korean War armistice with a full-fledged peace regime.

​ South Korea’s plan:

🔘 First stage — halt the development of North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.

🔘 Medium term — reduce its arsenal.

🔘 Long term — establish a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.

​ 🔘 Pyongyang has previously stated that it has no intention of abandoning its nuclear capabilities. North Korean authorities have repeatedly accused the US and South Korea of preparing military pressure and said they are ready to use nuclear weapons if threatened.
