During broadcasts of Fox News Sunday and Saturday Night Live, as well as a number of American football games, a video was shown featuring a montage of Trump's speech at Mount Rushmore. Another advertisement completely repeats Trump's campaign ad from the 2024 election. Before that, the administration purchased airtime for a video with the president's promise to fight communism.

In total, at least $2.5 million was spent on purchasing advertising. A few days before the videos began airing, the White House Office of Management and Budget allocated $20 million to the Border Patrol for holding "commemorative events and actions."

Democrats in Congress are demanding an account from the administration and accusing the White House of illegally transferring budget funds. Republican Senators John Thune, Thom Tillis, and John Kennedy also expressed dissatisfaction with the advertising campaign.

Federal law explicitly prohibits the use of budget money for "advertising and propaganda," and government employees are prohibited from making political statements (including in the form of videos) while performing their official duties.

But the White House insists that the videos are public service announcements and are no different from those placed by previous administrations, such as George W. Bush's advertising campaigns about the dangers of drugs and in support of the Medicare program (later recognized as propaganda and illegal) or calls for COVID vaccination under Joe Biden.
